Our queens are open-mated, Italian-Carniolan decent from our strongest, over-wintered hives.  They are proven layers and are selected for solid egg laying and honey production.  If you have a colony that lost a queen or are doing a split, the introduction of a new queen is a great way to keep a colony going.
